General Sizing Tips
Design Placement Guidelines
Front Chest: Center the design approximately 3-4 inches below the collar seam. This ensures the design sits in the natural focal point when someone looks at the shirt.
Back: Center the design approximately 2-3 inches below the collar seam. Back designs can be larger since there's more real estate to work with.
Pocket: Position the design in the upper left chest area where a pocket would naturally sit, typically 3-4 inches from the shoulder seam and 3-4 inches from the center of the shirt.
When to Size Up or Down
Size up when:
- The design has bold, simple elements that need impact
- You're using a very light or pastel color that needs more presence
- The garment is oversized or has a boxy fit
- You want the design to be the main focal point
Size down when:
- The design has intricate details that might get lost if too large
- You're creating a subtle, understated look
- The garment is fitted or slim-cut
- You're placing multiple designs on one garment
Special Considerations
Youth vs. Adult Proportions: Youth garments are not just smaller versions of adult shirts - they have different proportions. Always use youth-specific sizing to ensure designs don't overwhelm smaller frames.
Unisex vs. Women's Fit: Women's fitted tees have a more tapered cut. Consider sizing down 0.5-1 inch from standard recommendations to account for the narrower chest and torso.
Performance/Athletic Wear: These garments often have a slimmer, more fitted cut. Reduce sizing by about 1 inch to prevent designs from wrapping around the sides.
Oversized/Comfort Fit: Boxy, oversized tees can handle designs that are 1-2 inches larger than standard recommendations.
Common Sizing Mistakes to Avoid
❌ Making designs too large for youth sizes - This looks unprofessional and can wrap around to the sides or armpits
❌ Ignoring design shape - A tall, vertical design needs different considerations than a wide, horizontal one
❌ Forgetting about seam placement - Designs that extend into side seams or armpit areas will look distorted when worn
❌ Using the same size for all placements - Front, back, and pocket placements each have optimal size ranges
❌ Not accounting for garment style - Tank tops, long sleeves, and hoodies all have different optimal design sizes
